Hi Folks - a quick plug to promote the Stonehaven Folk Festival

The Festival runs from the 5th-8th July. Plenty of SC&T input with most of the Friday night Concert Ceilidh being a showcase of the talents of SC&T tutors, in fact I've just realised that apart from Barbara Dymock herself, everyone else is a past or present tutor at SC&T.

Saturday night showcases the North East Folk Collective directed by Sharron Hassan supporting Thalla, Brian McNeill and the Old Blind Dogs. Sunday night we have the BBC Young Tradition Musician of the year Rona Wilkie with Marit Falt plus the Paul McKenna Band and the Fred Morrison Trio.

There will also be many sessions around the town, some led by Festival artist, plus the Saturday SC&T slow session with Sandy Tweddle. We also have a range of workshops - learning new tunes with Brian McNeill on Fiddle, Scottish Finger Style Guitar with John Carnie, Irish Song with Len Graham and on Sunday, Appalachian Fiddle with Rona Wilkie, Guitar Accompaniment with Matheu Watson, Bodhran with Martin O'Neil and Small pipes and Whistle with Fred Morrison. Plus - the Steenhive Big Sing a two day singing workshop led by Christine Kydd. Two open air (weather permitting) concerts on Saturday at the Plainstones on Saturday and the Putting Green on Sunday, part of the Cowie Family Fringe.

Singers are well represented with the Saturday afternoon singaround led by Danny Couper and Arthur Watson, the Late night SIngers Club hosted by Bob Sharp, the tradition Bearers concert on SUnday afternoon followed by the Chorus Cup competition at the Belvedere.

And for the lighter side of things - there is the World Papr'n'Comb Championships on Saturday afternoon, this year with a 60's theme (the 1960's), and the wonderful Aqua Ceilidh on Sunday morning dancing the North east Folk Collective Ceilidh Big Band.

Something for everyone, we hope :o) all details and more from www.stonehavenfolkfestival.co.uk

thanks,

Charlie.

May 11 - May Festival: Day Of Song

A DAY OF SONG
'A Day of Song' aims to raise the profile of contemporary traditional singing as an art form and to raise awareness of the rich resources available to today's singers of the Greig-Duncan Folk Song Collection, gathered here in the North-East of Scotland between 1904 and 1914.

We aim to create a celebration and encourage young singers, and those new to the art, to see the potential for artistic development and new interpretations of this repertoire.
