This summer delve deep beyond the tartan wrappings to a Scotland rich in living traditions and veiled in myth!
The Scottish Storytelling Centre is proud to announce a range of events celebrating Scotland's rich culture and heritage, organised in partnership with The Gathering 2009, one of the biggest events in Scotland this summer and part of Homecoming 2009.

Wed 22 July, (2hrs30mins), £10/£8 Ceilidh House Experience the rich legacy of the Scottish folk revival first hand in an evening of folktales, songs and tunes celebrating the traditional ceilidh. Meet some of the colourful characters of the folk scene and soak up the lively ceilidh atmosphere with singers, songwriters and storytellers Nancy Nicolson and Ewan McVicar. In partnership with The Gathering 2009. Storytelling Fri 24 July, (2hrs30mins), £10/£8 Lore of the Land An enchanting journey through the natural and mythical landscape of rural Scotland. Roam through glen and over mountain in the footsteps of drovers, shepherds and farmers of old, with author and storyteller Stuart McHardy and storyteller and harpist Claire Hewitt in an interweaving of story, music, song and folklore. Thu 23 July, 11am (90mins), Not suitable for under 8s. Children must be accompanied, £5/£3 Royal Mile Story Walk: Part 1 Join the Old Town's own master storyteller John Fee for a jaunt down the Mile from the Castle to the Netherbow. Hear tales of the characters that once roamed these streets and uncover the mysteries of the Old Town. In partnership with The Gathering 2009. Meet at the statue of Earl Haig on horseback on the Esplanade. Walk
Thu 23 July, 2pm (90mins), Not suitable for under 8s. Children must be accompanied, £5/£3 Royal Mile Story Walk: Part 2 Join storyteller John Fee for a saunter down the Mile from the Netherbow to Holyrood Palace. Discover the stories behind the buildings of the Canongate and the colourful characters who lived there. Age 8 plus, children must be accompanied. In partnership with The Gathering 2009. Fri 24 July, & (45mins), Not suitable for under 8s. Children must be accompanied, £5/£3 Deacon Brodie's Old Town Tour Explore the closes and wynds of the Old Town in the company of Deacon Brodie, and hear the story of his grisly double life. Led by storyteller Robert Howat. Meet at the Scottish Storytelling Centre. In partnership with The Gathering 2009. Walk The Gathering 2009: Scotland's Stories Discover more about Scotland's rich culture and heritage, and explore your own Scottish roots and ancestry through shared story and experiences, with storyteller and tradition bearer David Campbell.
