Fluency in North East Scots (all)

Whether you’re new to the North-East or hae bade here aa yer days, ye’ll ken fine that we hae a unique way of speaking. Known as ‘Doric’ or ‘Toonser’ or by other by-names, did you know that this unique way of self-expression is part of the Scots Language, the largest minority language in Europe?

In this class Herald and National columnist Alistair Heather will introduce you to the rich history and literature of the language, and help you learn to speak it for the first time or deepen you vocabulary and bolster your confidence to use it in new ways. 

By the end of the first block of classes you’ll be a confident conversationalist, fluent reader, and budding writer,  having written your own Facebook post, letter to the P&J and more in our unique North-East tongue. 

Class is a collaboration with the University of Aberdeen’s Elphinstone Institute.

Location: MacRobert Building, Aberdeen University

Dates: 10 week term from 19th September 

Times: 7pm to 9pm, with a break for refreshment around 8pm
