Weekly Performance Group

Weekly Performance Group

Our Weekly Performance Group is a dynamic and collaborative musical ensemble for young people aged between 7 and 26. Currently sitting at 52 young people attending each week, this group serves as a platform for youth to come together, learn, collaborate, and have opportunities to perform Scottish traditional music in a supportive and engaging environment.

Classes:

  • There are four separate classes available: Totally beginner, Improvers, Intermediate, and Advanced.
  • Each class caters to different skill levels, ensuring that participants can learn and grow at their own pace.
  • Totally beginner participants are given a free penny whistle with tuition to be able to participate in the group on an instrument, if they would like to.

Where:

  • MacRobert Building, University of Aberdeen, AB24 3FX
  • 6:30pm – 8:30pm during term time only

Performance Sets:

  • Participants and tutors collaborate together to arrange performance sets during weekly sessions.
  • The group showcases their musical talents at various events and festivals throughout the year.

Performance Opportunities:

  • The group actively participates in renowned events such as Stonehaven Folk Festival, Portsoy Scottish Traditional Boat Festival, Light the Blue Festival, and more.

Funding and Inclusivity:

  • SC&T Youth works incredibly hard to secure funding to minimise barriers to participation for the young people and their families.
  • Flexible pricing options are available for term fees, including a completely free option if required.  If you would like to contribute financially towards the classes, there is a donation option of £20 (equivalent to £2 per class), £40 (equivalent to £4 per class) or £60 (equivalent to £6 per class) each term.
  • All funds raised go back into providing high-quality opportunities for the young participants.

Summary

The SC&T Youth Weekly Performance Group offers a vibrant and inclusive community where young musicians can come together, learn, share and perform. It’s an opportunity for personal growth, collaboration, and the joy of making music with like minded peers.
