Laura Harrington (née Lockyer) is from Shetland, though she lived in Orkney until age eight, an islander through and through! She started learning the fiddle at nine years old with Bernadette Porter and then Trevor Hunter. She has played with New Tradition, Swingin’ Fiddles, Ghillie Dhu and an array of ceilidh bands, travelling to Scandinavia, America and Europe, to Canada and Australia. She was also part of the Shetland fiddlers’ group, Hjaltibonhoga, taking part in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2014. Laura studied Sociology at Aberdeen University, supporting herself with teaching and performing, and also gained a fiddle teaching qualification. She has taught Fiddle 0, 1 and 3 and Session Playing at SC&T, as well as for Young SC&T at Aberdeen International Youth Festival, and led groups of adult players on SC&T’s trip to Ribe, Denmark, in 2013. Besides writing tunes, Laura’s creative output includes her three wonderful children. Having returned from a few years on the Isle of Skye (where she was teaching fiddle, in and out of schools) she now lives in Stonehaven and is enjoying the sessions.Ask Laura about Marketing and Young SC&T.
