SC&T is delighted to welcome back singer and song writer Pete MacCallum to teach the "Guitar for Singers" course this autumn. Pete is a founder member of SCaT and spent many years teaching guitar accompaniment and mixed instrument courses. He has a love of both traditional and somewhat more contemporary Scottish folk songs. As a purveyor of the “Bothy Jazz” genre of music and with a love of a good going chorus song, his performances take you on a journey from his Argyllshire west coast roots to Aberdeenshire’s rich singing traditions with perhaps just a wee bit of the comic verse and a puckle o’ fine stories thrown in along the way.
Guitar for Singers - This course is for guitarists who want to accompany either their own singing or other singers. It will look at how to get the best out of your guitar playing so that it complements a song whilst allowing a singing performance to shine. We will look at harmony, chord selection, rhythms, playing dynamics, listening skills, tempos, stage craft and performance technique using a variety of song examples over the course of the 10 weeks. Participants will be encouraged to sing as well as play to become comfortable with the techniques that create a really good performance. The course is aimed at intermediate standard guitarists with a good grasp of basic chords and will explore how to move from these to some more adventurous chord shapes up the dusty end of the fretboard!
