We were delighted to recently host a composition workshop with two true legends of composition, Duncan Chisholm and Hamish Napier, offering a fantastic creative opportunity for young musicians across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
Throughout the day, participants explored the art of writing a tune — gaining insight into how ideas develop, how melodies take shape, and the creative process behind composing. Working collaboratively, the group created a brand new piece of music together, guided by Duncan and Hamish — a really special achievement and a joy to hear come to life.
This new composition will be performed live as part of two major upcoming events at the Aberdeen Music Hall: The Big Gig (Sunday 14th June) and the Opening Concert of the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention (Wednesday 24th June), featuring over 100 young performers from across the region.
